New Feature: Preview Pages

Montag, Juni 28th, 2010

We have gotten a lot of feedback concerning our new preview pages - thanks a lot for that! Now let me explain a bit more detailed why we thought this page was necessary:

The main reason why we introduced this feature was that we wanted to protect you from malware- and phising sites. In the past some users took advantage of the Cligs-Service and we were forced to move to a new provider, due to the old one shutting down because of this misuse.

To avoid this in the future and to make using cligs easier for you , we now let every user decide by himself if he wants to be redirected to a shortened url or not: we will now provide meta-information, title and a small preview-pic of the destination URL for you. This lets you check out the desired website without having to click on it first - so you will not be redirected to any weird pages using cryptic short URLs anymore.

Please keep your feedback coming on this new feature - we would love to know how we can make the preview page better.

Update: It’s possible again to edit your cligs!

Cligs moved to a new provider

Mittwoch, Juni 23rd, 2010

We would like to apologize for the downtime in the past couple of days - we had some issues with our domain registrar and were forced to move to a new one. Since the web is based on DNS- and nameserver-entries and the update for the .gs-Domain is a bit slower than for other domains, the whole move to the new registrar took us 5 whole days - again, sorry for the downtime.

But now we are finally back online with some improvements in order to make cli.gs more secure and allow users to see where they will be redirected to.

For example: Check out this clig: http://cli.gs/Wss5p5. Since “Wss5p5″ doesn’t tell you anything until you click on the link, the new preview-page lets every user see the destination page with a screenshot (by websnapr.com) now and also gives you some meta-information (given that it is provided by the site-owners) - so you won’t be redirected to any phising- or malware-sites anymore. Since this might be a bit annoying for some of you power-users, we implemented a disable-function at the bottom of every preview-page. Once disabled, you will be redirected immediately in the future. If you disabled the preview-page by accident, you can enable it again by deleting the “DisablePreview”-Cookie in your browser.

Please let us know if you experience any problems.
